Leaf or Die

Problem

Edible aquatic plants are visually identical to highly toxic ones. We wanted to make the deadly risk of botanical misidentification in a post-flood world feel immediate and tangible.

Solution

An interactive tabletop game. Players test magnetic leaves on physical plates, triggering hidden LEDs that instantly reveal if their choice means they survive or die.

My involvement

As Creative Technician, I bridged the physical hardware and code. I programmed an Arduino to manage five RFID scanners simultaneously without freezing, routing instant verdicts to independent LED rings for seamless gameplay.

The Spark

The Process

Interactive Testing Plates:
Four custom-wired Arduino bases with hidden LED rings that provide immediate visual feedback.

The Interaction Loop:
Beyond the immediate LED verdict, players tap their smartphone against their chosen leaf. The embedded NFC sticker instantly launches a custom web database detailing the plant's real-world properties, toxicity levels, and survival applications.

The Physical Installation:
A central sculptural hub featuring hand-crafted, magnetic hydrophyte leaves that players detach to begin the game.
