Magic Electronics Projects

Problem

The Wang Burapha district, once a thriving cultural hub, needed revitalization. Collaborating with Nibhond—a local bookstore importing international literature since WWII—the challenge was to bridge their historic legacy with a contemporary design language, placing the past and present into a direct visual conversation.

Solution

An interactive AR spot-color poster. By selecting an archived 1993 manual titled Magic Electronic Projects, I reimagined its vintage cover as a modern augmented reality experience. What was "magic" in 1993 (electronics) translates to AR today, allowing modern audiences to engage playfully with the bookstore's history.

My involvement

I owned the end-to-end execution, from archival research to physical and digital production. I designed the mixed-typography layout, managed the physical spot-color printing, modeled the 3D assets, and engineered the Artivive WebAR layer to ensure a frictionless public interaction.

This project originated from the "Wang Burapha Book District Design Lab," hosted by CEA. The core directive from my professors was to reinterpret the district's legacy through a contemporary lens.



I anchored my concept around "knowledge that doesn't expire." Digging through Nibhond's archives, I found a 1993 book containing 30 electronic projects. Its flat, kinetic graphics, bright green background, and bold Helvetica typography were instantly compelling.



The conceptual leap was direct: if wiring basic electronics was considered "magic" thirty years ago, augmented reality is the definitive magic of today.

The Delivery


During the book district design lab exhibition, the installation successfully proved that historical archives can command modern attention. Over 200 people successfully interacted with the WebAR layer in the store.
